Assignment.1 Chelsea Bussey
I sort of remember my mom reading me the Color Kittens while she was rocking me to sleep in a rocking chair I had in my room. I was very young, and she did this every night. All of my grandparents used to read to me, and my grandpa(dad's side) still continues the tradition by reading his favorite books from his childhood like The Advenures of Remi and The Adventures of Peter Rabbit and Friends. I have discovered, devoured, and loved an entire book series. I have also struggled with reading from a very young age, and it really made me hate reading. I love being read to, though. Ender's Game made a difference in my life by making me like to read again. I read for pleasure now.

Chelsea, I love the way you described your hazy memory. I am always intrigued by memories like those you describe - hazy bits of memories that almost seem more like dreams. I suppose the fact that your memories of being read to involve being rocked to sleep also contribute to that dreamlike feeling. Please remind me to share some interesting research about reading to babies before and after they're born, okay?
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you made it through the difficulties of learning to read so that you now read for pleasure. Many children who struggle with learning to read never make it to this point.
I feel the same way! Reading was a struggle for me too. Without the introduction of certain teachers and certain books that brought me to an appreciation for reading, I would probably still hate it. I see what you mean about Ender's Game, sometimes something can suck you in and show you that it can come easier and it can be enjoyable.
ReplyDeleteEnder's Game was a page turner. I thought people were joking when they said they could not put a book down until I experienced it for myself.
ReplyDeleteOkay, you've all convinced me!! Ender's Game is definitely on my short list of books to read next! You should see the stack I'm staring at right now, though!! Thanks for the enthusiasm you've all expressed for this book; I'll read it before the semester ends.
ReplyDeleteEnder's Game is indeed a great book. Lots of twists and depth there. The author, Orson Scott Card, lives in Greensboro, NC, as well!
