The main focus for this book for me would have to revolve around the garden and flowers she takes care of. I think that this is a great outlet for any person to have at least one thing that they can do to relieve themselves from the day or from their life in general. At such a young age she has already figured out what she wants from the flowers and out of life. People that are already grown up still do not have that figured out. I respect that she can use that in her life. In such a difficult time in her life she uses the garden and flowers to help her get through her struggle. I feel like without the flowers she would have a completely different outlook on her life and own struggles.

I believe that with the consent on the parents you can read Harry Potter. Religion in school is a very touchy subject and it hits close with a lot of families. If I did not believe in witches or devilish being then I would not want my child to be exposed to this. As soon as one book passes the line of religion in school then there would be no stopping it. I am firm believer in not having religion in public school and if a parent would want religion to be taught they should send their child to a religious school. I love the book Harry Potter and it is a great fantasy book but should really only be read on the child's own time. I would not use the book in my class, there are several other good fantasy books that would be accepted by all and not as a big as a problem as Harry Potter would be. I would find another book that is wrote like Harry Potter and has similar fantasy plot.

Moses Found Poem

On a summer night

The dust settles as she stops sweeping and all is as it was.

"Lord, send my a sign

Please Lord, don't let them catch me and take me back to face my masters whip."

Trust me to protect you, child.

I set the North Star in the heavens and I mean for you to be free.

Don't let my journey end here.

Fly, Harriet. Your faith has wings.

She rises and moves on.

By moonlight, she marches on,

She makes a station along the Underground Railroad that slaves travel to freedom

And Harriet goes to church

The Lord says Harriet, be the Moses of your people

Risking her own life, Harriet returns to the dreaded South to rescues her family.

A Good Book

I believe a book that would fit under the "Good Book" category would be the first Harry Potter book. I remember getting that book in middle school and just being completely sucked into it. I could not put it down. I was around the same age as the main characters. Harry Potter opened my imagination and other children's eyes to a whole new genre of reading. At first, you would think it was to appeal one type of audience, it however reaches out to an audience of all ages. Anyone from the age of about 6 to 99 automatically falls in love with this book. The plot of the book has multiple climatic points as well as the final climax. It intrigues you by using new and different animals, sports, and people. You are learning about growing up and challenges you face as you grow up as the series goes on. Great series of books whether you are interested in fantasy or not, the way it is written just draws you in.

Thinking Back... Assignment 1. Taryn Gill

My parents would always let me pick out a book before bed time and I would hop into bed and get ready for them to come read to me. I normally picked out something with a bright cover and fun designs. My favorite books growing up were the Junie B. Jones books and as I got older I read The Babysitters Club. Reading was always a lot of fun for me and I enjoyed the experience of learning something new or just reading for the adventure. When I got into Elementary School my teachers all read to me, in a group with the other kids, normally in the morning when we would be sitting on the carpet around the teacher in a rocking chair.

Books I read as an adult have inspired me to do things in my life that I had never thought of before, but as a child I was never really inspired by a book, although I enjoyed them. I read now when I have the time, the last book I read, which is my favorite book, is the Catcher and the Rye. I am in the middle of My Sister's Keeper now.
