Weedflower
This book was a touching account of what life was like for Japanese children right after Pearl Harbor. I always have heard about what happened with Americans around that time but not what happened to innocent Japanese Americans. My favorite part in the book was when she was trying to grow the seeds in the desert and they wouldnt grow until she went and worked hard on the soil until they were nurtured enough to grow. When they finally grew they were the color of the rainbow and it made her proud of something that she had accomplished. Its amazing that in the face of adversity she still found something that could make her happy and proud of herself

Censorship
Books are an expression for the writters. They are what they feel and want to convey to the world. JK Rowling is an excellent example of a writer who had the courage to put out many books that are daring and amazing. Banning this book would be an injustice to students because it allows their creative talents to flow and develop. Censorship of any book is an injustice to students because allowing them to read things that are out of the ordinary and different benefit the way they learn. Harry Potter is based in a fantasy world that allows the mind to wander and creates a sanctuary for some children to come to when they are reading the book. I firmly belive that censorship is a disadvantage because it restricts the view points of authors.

I am Winn Dixie- I Poem
I am Winn Dixie.
I was alone, but now I’m found.
I was dirty and smelly.
I was taken in and loved.
I love my new family.
I helped them learn about themselves.
I try to do what I am told.
I am very, very afraid of thunder.
I almost got lost again because of thunder.
I helped my owner meet new friends.
I even met new friends.
I love my new family.
I love having a home.
I love having friends.
I was alone, but now I’m found.
I was dirty and smelly.
I was taken in and loved.

Found poems
The book Moses: When Harriet Tubman Lead her People to Freedom, talks a lot about trust and having faith in yourself and your Lord. Harriet Tubman faces many tribulations and still through her faith and trust manages to save her people and in the author’s note it says she never lost a person. These lines show her trust and anxiety about the trip. This book does not have page numbers so they are not marked.
I set the north star in the heavens,
Lord I am going to hold steady to you.
I am going to see you through.
The hour has come,
Mortals will give you refuge.
I don’t know who to trust, Lord.
I will arm you against your enemies,
Trust me to protect you child.
Use his lessons to be free.
Thank you lord.
Your faith has wings,
I can carry you.
Is this heaven Lord?
Be the Moses of your people.
Save all you can.
Well Done.

Good Books.
I think a good book is a book that engages a child, draws them in and makes the story real. They can have very few words and still be amazing. A series of books by Alexandra Day about a dog named Carl are books that I would consider good. Some of the titles are Good Dog Carl, Carl Goes to Daycare, and Carl Goes Shopping. These books only have words on the first and last pages and certain items in the stories have titles but that is all. Throughout the book you know what is going on by the illustrations and they are very vivid. These books not only engage the child by allowing them to piece the story together in there own minds, but it also teaches sequencing. I wouldn't say a good book is necessarly one that throws a life lesson in your face but these books show life lessons inadverntently.

Thinking Back...
I vividly remember my dad reading to me at night when I was younger. He read to me every night to get me to sleep, this was the only way to get me to sleep. One book in particular stands out in my mind because he made it come alive, the book was The Dress I'll Wear to the Party, by Shirley Neitzel. When my dad read this book he would speed up as he read it because the book is very repetititive. As a young child i only remember my dad reading to me, but in talking to my mom she said that both her and my dad read. I do know that the first person that ever taught me to read was my grandmother, she also taught me how to write my name and do my numbers. To this day I still have books in my room that my parents read to me when I was younger such as, Amelia Bedelia, Little House on the Prarie, and a collection of Disney stories. Another one of my earliest memories occured in the 2nd grade when my teacher Mrs. Link would have a kid sit on her lap each day and help her read the story to the rest of the class. I was never a lover of books when I was younger, but I was always a good reader. I dont think a book really caught my attention until I was much older with the Nicholas Sparks books. I avidly have read many of his books but still am not very interested in reading for pleasure like many people are.
