I hear a voice from a far
I turn to my mother’s side
I ask her if she hears it too
Simply she replies
God speaks in a whip-poor will's song
And God whispers back in the breeze
God Speak through a babbling brook
And can be seen in all the trees
He says he will make a way for you
To prepare for the journey ahead
But now it’s his turn to speak
You must listen to what he says
I have blessed you with what you need
Strong body and clever mind
I will arm you against your enemies
And no harm will come to you dear child
Go to my house, where fear washes away
So she races as fast as she can
The hour has come, her own heart pounding
Her new life now lies ahead
God opened her eyes, and cradled her
Clearly now she sees Gods face
Holding Gods hand all the While
She finally found him this day

Absolutely beautiful, Olivia! I loved the way you combined all the ways Harriet heard God speaking to her. It was very effective to group Weatherford's words that way. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great poem Olivia. You did an excellent job on this and I really enjoyed reading it and the way you organized the lines from the book.
